HazelFox is a wild red fox and the inspiration behind Coming Home – The Indigo Fox & The Thing About Foxes
He has been brought up and lives in captivity due to a bad injury as a small cub. The time involved in his healing meant it was too late to return him to the wild, as he had not learned the skills he needed in order to survive. This page will tell his story!
A Lockdown Miracle
HazelFox was found in the spring of 2020 during the first covid lockdown. He was so cold to touch and completely motionless and it first appeared that he had sadly died. But then, one eyelid flickered ever so slightly, with a faint ripple along his side from what would have been his last breaths.
He was sodden wet and so very cold which was clearly the first thing that needed attention. He also had a badly injured leg Wrapped in towels, with some tiny drops of milk and water dripped on his mouth, he was put in a box with a wrapped-up hot water bottle beside him.
Then the wait began to see if he would survive the night. Little did we know that a whole new journey, along with a very steep learning curve was only just beginning
